Dr. A. C. Mathai, a gold medallist in Civil Engineering(1964) from Kerala University, had his M Tech and Ph. D degrees from IIT Madras. After an initial teaching Career at Government Engineering Colleges in Kerala, he had a five year term with the UPSC , New Delhi. As Deputy Secretary in charge of Examination Reforms he was responsible for introduction of objective type examinations including the first Civil Service (Preliminary) Examination of 1979. Dr Mathai was a Post-Doctoral Fulbright Scholar in USA and later served on the Civil Engineering Faculty of BITS Pilani. During 1983 to 2004 he served as Professor / Dean at REC/ NIT Calicut. His contributions at REC included starting of Training & Placement Department, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Continuing Education Programmes and the Technology Business Incubator. After superannuation from NITC, Dr Mathai was Principal and later Emeritus Professor at Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology. He is the Academic Advisor of MITS from 2014. He is also mentor of SHREDS Kerala, an NGO operating in Kerala since 1997.
